Questions
Which meta tags matter for SEO?
The title tag and meta robots directly affect indexing and ranking. The meta description affects clicks. The canonical tag tells Google which URL to index, and the viewport tag is needed for mobile-first indexing. Meta keywords have been ignored by Google for over a decade.
How long should a title tag and meta description be?
Aim for 30–60 characters for titles and 70–160 characters (about 155 is ideal) for meta descriptions. Google measures in pixels, so wide letters can be cut off sooner.
Why does Google show a different title or description from mine?
Google rewrites titles and descriptions it considers too long, stuffed with keywords, duplicated across pages or not matching the content. Unique, accurate tags of the right length are rewritten far less often.
How do I check meta tags on several pages at once?
This checker reads the page you enter and up to 20 more from your XML sitemap, then reports duplicate and missing titles and descriptions across them.
