Duplicate title tags across pages

Medium priorityOn-page SEO

Several pages on your site use exactly the same title, so they compete with each other in search.

What triggers this issue

  • Two or more of the audited page and up to 20 sampled sitemap pages share a title.

Why it matters

When pages share a title, Google can’t tell from the most visible signal how they differ. It may pick the wrong one to rank, or rewrite the titles itself.

It is usually caused by a template that sets one title for many pages, like every product in a category.

How to fix it

  1. Give each page a unique title that describes what makes it different.
  2. Fix the template: build titles from each page’s own name, such as product name + category + brand.
  3. If pages really are duplicates, merge them and redirect, or use a canonical.
