Page not listed in the XML sitemap

Low priorityOn-page SEO

Your XML sitemap exists but doesn’t include this page, so search engines may discover and recrawl it less reliably.

What triggers this issue

  • The page’s URL (in any http/https, www or trailing-slash variant) isn’t in the sitemap or the first child sitemaps of an index.

Why it matters

A sitemap is the list of pages you want indexed. Pages missing from it can still be found through links, but new and updated pages are picked up faster when they’re listed.

If the page shouldn’t be indexed, leaving it out is correct.

How to fix it

  1. Add the page’s canonical URL to the sitemap; most CMS sitemap plugins do this automatically for published pages.
  2. Check the page isn’t excluded by a plugin setting or a noindex tag.
