Sitemap lists noindex pages

Medium priorityOn-page SEO

Pages in your XML sitemap are set to noindex, so your sitemap asks Google to index pages that ask not to be indexed.

What triggers this issue

  • One or more sampled sitemap URLs have a noindex robots meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header.

Why it matters

Google reports this as “Submitted URL marked noindex” in Search Console. It is a conflicting signal that wastes crawl budget and makes your sitemap less trustworthy.

How to fix it

  1. Decide for each page: if it should rank, remove noindex; if not, remove it from the sitemap.
  2. In most CMSs, noindexed pages are dropped from the sitemap automatically once the plugin settings agree.
