Slow Largest Contentful Paint for real visitors
High priorityPerformance
Chrome users see the page’s main image or text block appear after more than 2.5 seconds (75th percentile).
What triggers this issue
- LCP needs improvement: 2.5–4 seconds.
- LCP is poor: over 4 seconds.
Why it matters
Largest Contentful Paint measures when the biggest thing on screen, usually the hero image or headline, finishes loading. It is a Core Web Vital Google uses for ranking, and it is the moment visitors feel the page has loaded.
This is field data from the Chrome UX Report: real visits over the last 28 days, so changes take a few weeks to show.
How to fix it
- Find the LCP element in Chrome DevTools (Performance panel) or PageSpeed Insights.
- If it’s an image: compress it, serve WebP/AVIF at the right size, add
fetchpriority="high"and never lazy-load it. - Reduce server response time with caching or a CDN.
- Remove render-blocking CSS and JavaScript that delays the first paint.
