Slow Interaction to Next Paint for real visitors
High priorityPerformance
When Chrome users click, tap or type, the page takes more than 200ms to respond visually (75th percentile).
What triggers this issue
- INP needs improvement: 200–500ms.
- INP is poor: over 500ms.
Why it matters
Interaction to Next Paint measures how quickly the page responds to input across the whole visit. Slow responses feel broken: people tap twice, or give up. It is a Core Web Vital Google uses for ranking.
The usual cause is too much JavaScript running on the main thread, often from third-party tags.
How to fix it
- Break up long JavaScript tasks so the browser can respond in between.
- Defer or remove non-essential third-party scripts (chat widgets, trackers, A/B tests).
- Avoid heavy work in click handlers; show feedback first, then do the work.
