Links with no text

Medium priorityContent

Some links have no text, alt text or aria-label, so search engines and screen readers can’t tell where they go.

What triggers this issue

  • One or more links have no text, no labelled image or SVG, and no aria-label or title.

Why it matters

Anchor text is how search engines understand the page a link points to, and how screen readers announce it. Icon-only links (social icons, cart, logo) are the usual cause.

How to fix it

  1. Add visible text, an aria-label, or alt text on the image inside the link.

<a href="/cart" aria-label="View cart">
  <svg aria-hidden="true">…</svg>
</a>
