Broken internal links

High priorityContent

Links on the page to other pages on your own site return 404, 410 or server errors.

What triggers this issue

  • One or more internal links returned 404, 410 or 5xx.

Why it matters

Broken internal links are dead ends for visitors and crawlers. They waste crawl budget, stop ranking signals reaching the target page and make the site look neglected.

How to fix it

  1. Update each link to the correct URL, or remove it.
  2. If the page was moved or deleted, 301-redirect the old URL to the best replacement.
  3. Check your navigation and footer templates; one broken link there repeats on every page.
