Share image broken, small or too large

High prioritySocial & AI search

The og:image doesn’t load, is smaller than 1200×600, or is over 5 MB, so shares show no image or a tiny thumbnail.

What triggers this issue

  • Share image doesn’t load (error status or unreachable).
  • Share image is small: under 1200×600 pixels.
  • Share image is very large: over 5 MB.

Why it matters

Platforms only show a large preview card when the image is big enough; smaller images become a small thumbnail beside the text. A broken image URL means no image at all, and most platforms reject files over 5–8 MB.

How to fix it

  1. Use a 1200×630 PNG or JPEG under 1 MB at a public, absolute https:// URL.
  2. Make sure the image isn’t blocked by robots.txt, a login or hotlink protection.
  3. Re-scrape the URL in Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector after changing it.
