Images over 200 KB
Medium priorityImages
Some images are larger than 200 KB (and some may be over 500 KB), which slows the page down, especially on mobile.
What triggers this issue
- Images over 200 KB (warning).
- Images over 500 KB (error).
Why it matters
Images are usually the heaviest part of a page. Oversized images are the most common cause of a slow Largest Contentful Paint and burn through visitors’ mobile data.
A photo displayed at 800px wide rarely needs to be more than 100–150 KB.
How to fix it
- Resize images to the largest size they are displayed at (2× for sharp screens).
- Compress them with Squoosh, TinyPNG or your CDN’s image optimisation.
- Serve WebP or AVIF instead of JPEG and PNG.
