Images missing alt text
High priorityImages
Some <img> elements have no alt attribute, so screen readers and Google Images can’t understand them.
What triggers this issue
- One or more images have no
altattribute at all.
Why it matters
Alt text is read aloud by screen readers and shown when an image fails to load. It is also how Google Images understands what an image shows, which can bring search traffic. Missing alt text is one of the most common WCAG failures.
An empty alt="" is correct for purely decorative images and is not flagged.
How to fix it
- Describe each meaningful image in a short phrase, as you would to someone on the phone.
- Use
alt=""for decorative images such as background patterns and dividers. - Don’t stuff keywords or start with “image of”.
