How to write a good title tag
The title tag is the clickable headline of your page in Google results and the text in the browser tab. It is one of the strongest on-page signals of what a page is about.
Why it matters
Google usually shows your title tag as the blue link in search results, so it decides whether people click. It also tells search engines which searches the page is relevant for.
Google cuts titles off at about 600 pixels, which is roughly 60 characters. Titles that are too short waste space you could use for a keyword or a reason to click. A page with several title tags sends mixed signals, and search engines may pick the wrong one.
How to fix it
- Give every page exactly one
<title>element inside<head>. - Aim for 30–60 characters. Put the main keyword near the start, then a benefit or detail, then your brand.
- Make each title unique across your site so pages don’t compete with each other.
- Describe the page honestly. Google rewrites titles that don’t match the content.
- If your CMS or theme adds a second title tag, remove the duplicate in the theme or SEO plugin settings.
